Our Technology 01

High-resolution global flood simulation technology

We use the world's most advanced flood simulation technology, which boasts high accuracy, wide-area coverage and high speed, the result of research by the Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo. It is capable of addressing flood risks not only in Japan but also on a global scale.

The river flooding simulation technology built using the new method can be calculated more than 1 million times faster while maintaining performance comparable to conventional technology, making it easy to apply the technology to future climate change scenario analysis.

Using this technology, we have developed and provided our own inundation hazard maps from around the world for the past 40 years.

Our Technology 02

Real-time river and flood forecasting

In collaboration with universities and other research institutions, we are developing research and development for real-time river and flood forecasting.

We are also developing methods to produce faster and more accurate inundation area estimates using satellite data and machine learning.

Our Technology 03

Predicting financial damage by floods

The damage per building caused by flooding is calculated in monetary terms using a damage function.

Population, building and economic impact data due to flooding is developed with a resolution of approximately 100 m. Various applications are possible, such as risk assessment of supply chains and real estate, and comparison of flood risks between countries and regions.

Our Technology 04

Global climate data from past to future

As well as floods, other climate risk data such as extreme heat, heavy rainfall and strong winds have been developed and are available.

Other climate and hydrological data and findings from the latest global research from universities and other organisations are used for research and development. We can consult with you on a wide range of topics, including the latest research on climate and hydrology and new projects that use this research.
