Gaia Vision wins second place in the disaster category of the “NEDO Supply Chain Data Challenge” sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and NEDO

〜Developing flood prediction technology by integrating AI, flood simulation technology, and satellite data〜

Gaia Vision Co., Ltd., in collaboration with LTS Co., Ltd. and Resilire Co., Ltd., won second place in Theme 2 in the system development category of the NEDO Supply Chain Data Challenge.

The NEDO Supply Chain Data Challenge is the first bounty project sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (hereinafter referred to as “NEDO”), and uses satellite data to grasp the damage caused by natural disasters and to identify companies and factories in the company’s supply chain at an early stage. This is a contest to solicit ideas and system development. Proposals for ideas began on March 18, 2022, and the winners of the first round were announced on June 1, 2022, and a pitch contest was held at the final selection meeting held on December 12 with 20 proposals that passed the first round.

Gaia Vision Co., Ltd., LTS Co., Ltd., and Resilire Co., Ltd. made a joint proposal as one team to Theme 2 of the system development category of this contest, “Estimation of impact on the supply chain caused by disasters such as large-scale wind and flood damage and provision of visualization services.” The “FASPAI, a supply chain impact visualization service using flood hazard maps and satellite data and AI technology” developed and proposed by the team, won second place in this category and won a cash prize of 5 million yen.

About the proposed system “FASPAI”

FASPAI is an abbreviation of “Flood Assessment System using Physics-based AI” and is an AI model that predicts inundation areas from precipitation. Our customers are assumed to be production management personnel of companies with extensive and wide-ranging supply chains. Using satellite image data, flood simulations based on university research, and high-precision topographic data, it is possible to predict inundation areas with high accuracy in a few minutes from precipitation data alone. Furthermore, by supporting impact assessment and recovery response on the supply chain management platform Resilire based on the estimated flood area information, it is the world’s first service that minimizes the impact of flooding for customers using the system and contributes to improving the resilience of companies.

For companies considering using the service

This service can quickly predict the inundation range in the event of a flood around the world using AI and provide it quickly. If you have any problems with flood countermeasures or natural disaster response, please contact us from the inquiry on the website.

Future developments

With the cooperation of LTS Co., Ltd. and Resilire Co., Ltd., we were able to develop the world’s first groundbreaking system concept and elemental technology. The three companies will continue to work together to implement the system and expand its customers.
