[Press] Gaia Vision selected for “Global Sustainability Accelerator powered by Creww | Google for Startups”

Gaia Vision (CEO: Yuki Kita), a provider of a climate change risk analysis platform, has been selected for the “Global Sustainability Accelerator” sponsored by Google for Startups and Creww (CEO: Sorato Ijichi). Through this program, we will work to accelerate our global expansion. As global disclosure standards are being developed by the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), etc., Gaia Vision will develop and accelerate deployment of a climate change risk analysis platform, which is increasingly demanded.

Gaia Vision has been selected for the “Global Sustainability Accelerator”. This program is targeted for Japanese startups that promote sustainability to solve social issues around the world. The program aims to create innovation in countries and regions facing challenges in Japan and abroad by utilizing startups’ technologies and services to realize sustainable and prosperous societies. Gaia Vision was selected as one of the 10 companies from among many applicants through a competitive selection process.

Background of Gaia Vision’s Application

As climate change intensifies, adaptation efforts to prevent the spread of damage will become increasingly important. In order to realize adaptation, it is crucial that risk management for physical risks such as disasters be carried out on a global scale. Upon conducting a proper risk analysis of future climate change, appropriate countermeasures and investments in disaster prevention should be made, and the risks should be monitored. It is necessary to implement such a management cycle.

Towards the realization of the above, Gaia Vision offers “Climate Vision”, a climate change risk analysis platform. Through this platform, companies, financial institutions, and local governments can easily conduct global risk analysis by entering information such as the addresses of their locations. While conventional hazard maps focus on current risk assessment, this platform features a climate scenario analysis function that takes future climate change into account.

The platform has been used mainly by companies in Japan, yet Gaia Vision aims to expand its business globally in the future. Gaia Vision’s core strength is the flood simulation technology developed at the University of Tokyo. While conventional technologies have focused on local simulations within a specific area due to computational constraints, this technology is characterized by its ability to perform global, low-cost calculations by using satellite data and adjusted model structures. Based on this technological affinity, we have been exploring the opportunity of using this technology globally.

Future Initiatives

Through this program, we will accelerate global business and solution development. We will promote the development of our climate change risk analysis platform Climate Vision so that it can be applied overseas, and engage in PMF (Product Market Fit) through dialogues with global companies. We will also accelerate R&D and solution development related to real-time risk monitoring, which is expected to be in high demand globally, with the aim of becoming the Global #1 ClimateTech Company.
